Shawn Morten, president of Dakota Helicopters, grew up in the vegetation control business. Some of his earliest childhood memories are sitting in the co-pilot seat watching his father, Jim Morten, as he sprayed. Shawn learned the business quickly, and began flying solo in 1976. Over the next few years Shawn received his Commercial rating for both fixed wing and rotorcraft, as well as becoming a certified flight instructor, airframe & powerplant mechanic with inspection authorization qualifications.
In 1989 Shawn bought Dakota Helicopters from his father. Over the years Shawn has strived to further develop the company while maintaining a reputation of quality application and unsurpassed customer service. This growth eventually led to Dakota Helicopters becoming incorporated in 2004.
Throughout his work with railroads, Shawn saw a need to expand the company by adding Hi-Rail capable ground trucks to his fleet of aircraft. He has continued to upgrade and fine tune his equipment to fit each customer’s needs.
In 2008 Shawn had a team of programmer’s from CTN data create a GPS system tailor made for the Dakota Helicopter’s line of work. This equipment has brought about the capability to view Dakota’s application in “real time.” Please feel free to check out the program by clicking below. (link to the Google Earth work locations).
Dakota Helicopters looks forward to new challenges and opportunities to work with new clients, as well as continuing to provide quality vegetation control for our satisfied customers.
